What the issue is
Roadways in Hillsborough fall under municipal, county, or state jurisdiction. Route 206, for example, is a state highway. Traffic management therefore often requires coordination among multiple levels of government.
Why it matters locally
Congestion and intersection safety are recurring resident concerns and are closely connected to development review and road maintenance decisions.
How the Township Committee can influence it
The Township Committee can fund municipal traffic studies and improvements, adopt traffic ordinances on municipal roads, and advocate to Somerset County and NJDOT for changes on roads outside municipal jurisdiction.
